Limits as a design tool
A fantasy console fixes resolution, palette, memory and code size before you start. Every one of those numbers removes a decision you would otherwise agonise over.
The tool is the machine
Code, sprites, map, music and sound all live in one editor and one cartridge file. That single file is also how you share the result.
Plan to fit
Knowing the sprite budget and token limit up front means your idea shrinks on paper instead of being cut halfway through.
Console fit plan
Pick a console, work through its checklist, then state what your production is in one sentence.
